Award Winning Author Judges Children’s Festival by its’ Cover

Telling Tales is a local Festival that celebrates identity, heritage and creativity. Pupils from twelve Torbay schools have been working hard to create the designs that will adorn Telling Tales Festival’s publicity material.
Peter Bently, local children’s author of popular titles such as, “The Great Dog Bottom Swap” and “Cats Ahoy!”, winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, kindly judged the eight finalists in the publicity design competition. The Judging took place at Paignton Community & Sports College, organised by the college’s Advanced Skills Teacher, Jess Hunter. Telling Tales is a two year Festival project that is sponsored by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Show of Hands, Torbay LA, Business Enterprise, The Cooperative Community Fund, The Palace Theatre and Connecting Classrooms.
The Festival will bring together school children in Torbay as well as businesses, personalities, experts and the local community. The participants and local volunteers will explore stories, histories, icons and legends that make up our local heritage.
Mr Bently said, “For children from different schools in the area to all be working together to celebrate creativity and their heritage is such a valuable experience. It was great to see the effort and imagination that went into all of the entries.”
Telling Tales performances and exhibitions will take place at the Palace Theatre (Box Office 665800) on Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th March.
First Prize – Congratulations to Naomi, Year 4, Priory Roman Catholic Primary School
