Rachel James Film Music Composer

Chichester (West Sussex) based film composer Rachel James (previously known as Rachel Grave) graduated with a Masters Degree in Composition for Screen from the Royal College of Music in London where she studied with Joseph Horovitz and David Burnand. She gained her first degree in Music at the University of Surrey and then took a Masters at the Guildhall in London where she studied with composer Malcolm Singer.

She works as a film composer, orchestrator, score programmer and copyist. She scored the award winning short animation Five O'Clock Shadow. Rachel has worked on various projects, including El mío and Two Left Feet for the animator Laura Marion James. She worked with German Director Andreas Ksoll on various films, including Dr Valentine and Boiler.

She composes for all types of media from feature films to documentaries, trailers, games and animations.

Rachel recently scored feature film Candle to Water and USA feature film, Crash Down Hearts as well as composing cinematic trailers for the National Trust and orchestrating on James Bond: Goldeneye video game and Jackboots on Whitehall. She also works with EMMY nominated composer Guy Michelmore.

Rachel also tutors on all the courses at ThinkSpace Education, which includes music technology, orchestration and composing to media as well as the Harmony course, which she has written. She also teaches privately.
