Big Poetry

Big Poetry

Big Poetry is back for its February event! Hosted by Samantha Boarer and Robert Garnham, this is a night not to be missed.

Tonight's headliner is Miserable Malcolm. Don't be put off by the name, Miserable Malcolm is one of the funniest performers on the national scene.

Miserable Malcolm has been spreading gloom around the country for several long years. He has performed his one-man show “Graveside Manner” at Brighton, Barnstaple and Reading Fringes and Cheltenham Poetry Festival. He also performs regularly at cabaret nights and has appeared alongside John Hegley and Simon Munnery among others. But he’s really not been the same since his girlfriend left him.
Some reviews:
“[His] ridiculous doom-laden stand-up routine and melancholic verse have the curious effect of cheering up the entire audience, much to Malcolm’s stern aggravation.” Stroud News and Journal
“I almost died laughing … which frankly isn’t good enough” (Audience member, Birmingham)
Miserable Malcolm is the alter-ego of Bill Jones, a writer and illustrator. His first book, an illustrated novel in puns called The Life and Times of Algernon Swift was published by Head of Zeus in 2017. The TLS commended it for its “sheer relentless glee” and The Big Issue called it “a complete joy”. He has a website of jokes and drawings at www.hawkerspot.com and is currently working on a book about gardening.
