Feeling Sound

Feeling Sound

Children and young people aren't always listened to about their worries.

There is a lot of confusing advice around about how to live well and take care of ourselves. We started the 'What the Health!' radio show, with Healhwatch Devon, to provide a space for young people to ask their own questions to health experts, and to air their views and their advice for one another on keeping healthy and living well. The programme broadcasts once a month, and has contributors of all ages. We are working with schools, families and youth groups to produce content for the programmes, including poems and songs by young people, interviews with health professionals, features about recipes, sports and actiivities, and favourite music choices.

GET INVOLVED: CALLING YOUNG CREATIVES!

Your community radio station is offering two free, empowering creative workshops for young people aged between 14 and 18 years old with a focus on health and wellbeing. This opportunity is part of a wider project called Feeling Sound, which is funded by the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund.

In Totnes on Saturday 30th January and 6th February, 12 noon until 2pm, radio workshop leaders Shelley Hodgson and Jenny Wellwood will guide participants to present and produce their own radio features by reporting on issues and interviewing healthcare experts or local figures.

We are seeking young hosts and producers for the What the Health shows to address young people's health needs, concerns and solutions. We welcome frank, open conversations about making healthier lifestyle choices. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Sarah Gray sarah@soundartradio.org.uk to enquire and to book your place on the free workshops.
