Radio 1 DJ Starts the Summer early at South Devon College

BBC RADIO 1 DJ Danny Howard gave South Devon College students a preview of the Radio 1 Roadshow when he visited the College on Friday 18 May. He broadcast for half an hour on College radio station Vibe FM, and took part in a video interview with College Media students.

The students heard about how Danny rose to fame by winning the BBC Radio 1 Superstar DJ competition in 2011, and then went on to open the Radio 1 Ibiza weekend. He has had residencies at top clubs such as ‘Ministry of Sound’ in Egypt and the Uk’s largest nightclub, ‘The Syndicate’ in Blackpool, his native town. He joined Radio 1 in February and now has a popular slot – BBC Radio 1’s Dance Anthems – on Saturday evenings. He travelled down to the College in advance Saturday’s massive dance party on Paignton Green.

Nearly 1400 tickets for the 8000 sell out Roadshow were allocated to South Devon College students, so there was plenty of interest in finding out more about Danny and his success so far. College students saw him perform at the Roadshow with other well known DJs such as Eric Prydz, Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Fearne Cotton and Chris Moyles.

“Our ticket allocation went in a matter of days to all our excited students, and their anticipation was only heightened by Danny Howard’s visit,” said Student Liaison Officer Roy Courtney, “There was a real buzz around the College and it was great to see so many of our students enjoying themselves on Paington Green. The Student’s Union was in full force on the day and definitely made it a day to remember!”

The DJ and dance music event was broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra from 4pm to 11pm. For more information on South Devon College call free on 08000 380 123 or visit www.southdevon.ac.uk.
