The Child & The Magic

The Child & The Magic

A bold new production of Ravel’s remarkable forty-five minute children’s opera, The Child and The Magic (L’Enfant et Les Sortileges).

Set in a spectacular big-top in the magnificent setting of Bignor Park, within the South Downs National Park, featuring international professional singers, a thirty five piece youth orchestra of the best musicians in the county including University of Chichester practitioners, recent graduates and current students and a fabulous adult and children’s chorus, under the Music Direction of David Jones (Welsh Royal College of Music and Drama, English National Opera, Paris Opera).

In a brilliant score with twenty-seven musical sections in a forty-five minute spell, a young boy is driven by boredom into destroying the objects he loves, unwittingly releasing a magic spell that brings them all to life - to teach him a lesson he won’t forget! In a phantasmagorical parade, live animation by BlueStar Animation (Passenger, Richard Durrant) and costume and design by Atlanta Duffy (The Lion & The Jewel, V&A, Lyric Hammersmith) bring the amazing tale to life under the Direction of Karen Howard (University of Chichester, Scottish Opera, Music Theatre Wales). Sung in English.

Location: Bignor Park, Pulborough, RH20 1HG

19 - 23 September 2012, 7:30pm with matinees Sat and Sun at 3:00pm.
