Book Launch and afternoon event of speakers and discussions

Book Launch and afternoon event of speakers and discussions

Temporary Contemporary will be launching a book and discussion afternoon about arts and cultural activities in vacant spaces, online on Thursday 30 July, 1 - 4pm. Book your place now at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/temporary-contemporary-whats-next-tickets-110678448218.

Covid-19 has impacted Temporary Contemporary as a place-based initiative working in partnership with Kirklees Council. Since 2018, the project has expanded to create a cultural hub for arts and cultural practitioners/workers and academic researchers in the centre of Huddersfield town.

To coincide with the book launch of 'Temporary Contemporary: creating vibrant spaces to support the conditions for creative and cultural activity', we invite you to participate in an afternoon event which considers the progress of the initiative to date and asks how we might continue to realise arts and cultural activities in-situ and within vacant spaces in Queensgate Indoor Market and in the Piazza Shopping area of Huddersfield.

We encourage you to think with us about the evolution and growth of Temporary Contemporary in a Covid context. What mechanisms and modes of delivery might be designed, developed and programmed to aid in the future development and sustainability of this initiative?

Key strands for the event with guest speakers and breakout rooms for discussion:

1. Sustainable Income Generation for Temporary Contemporary (creative sector)

2. Structures of Support – what do artists and cultural producers need?

3. Environmental/Climate Change – ecological approaches

4. Place-based/Public Space Huddersfield – mixed cultural ecology

Places need to be booked to take part in this online events
