Bringing a smile to hospital Gallery

An artist who exhibits in the finest galleries and art shows across Devon is being welcomed to The Gallery, Torbay Hospital, on September 25 with her one-woman show “Teignscapes.

Jane Burt, who has her working studio in Teignmouth, will be exhibiting her most recent landscape, seascape and flower paintings, produced in her distinctive, lively, bright style, although she is also known for ceramics and printing. One of her sculptures won the “Best Art” prize in the 2007 Trail event (for recycled art in the landscape, staged across the Teignmouth area). She has also won the “Most Popular” prize in this year’s Trail with her iconic sculpture “It’s a Dog’s Life” which is currently exhibited at the Devon Open Art Studios at MallandsBarn, Newton Abbot.

She studied at the Plymouth College of Art and Design and has exhibited throughout the South West, in South Wales and in Brittany. Most recently, her work has been on show with the Teign Artists group, at the Delamore Gallery and at the Great Create Festival of the Arts held at Greenway earlier this year.

Jane has lived in Devon for nearly 30 years and is regularly to be seen taking part in local competitive rowing events and regattas all around the South West.

She says: “I find nothing more inspiring to my artwork than rowing along the estuary on a beautiful summer morning in my own small dinghy or battling against a high sea in a traditional “gig” boat with the local team”.

Jane adds: “This is an exciting opportunity to stage my biggest ever solo exhibition with over 30 works on show. I will be exhibiting new work that I have been preparing especially for this venue and hope to bring lively, colourful and humorous pieces to the event in the hospital’s Gallery.”

The exhibition opens on the evening of Friday September 25, and will run for five weeks, until October 30. The Gallery is open daily, round-the-clock, just off the hospital’s main entrance foyer. All the works will be for sale.
