'AN EASY DAY FOR A LADY - THE CLOTHING PRACTICES OF EARLY WOMEN

'AN EASY DAY FOR A LADY - THE CLOTHING PRACTICES OF EARLY WOMEN

As part of Torquay Museum's Explorer Season, a talk by Dr Kate Strasdin: Snr Lecturer, History and Theory, Fashion and Textiles Institute, Falmouth University

'An Easy Day for a Lady - the Clothing Practices of Early Women Mountaineers 1850-1914.'

'Victorian ladies are too often depicted as wilting wallflowers, incapable of walking anywhere without fainting fits, wearing impractical corsets and long skirts. This lecture takes a fresh look at some of the most pioneering women of the second half of the 19th century, women who climbed mountains and did so whilst wearing some seemingly unlikely garments.'

This is a fundraising event for Torquay Museum.
Tickets cost £5 and are available from reception at Torquay Museum either in person or over the phone. Pre-booking is advisable - call 01803 293975. A 50% discount is available for museum entry ticket when purchasing a ticket for this event.
