WITCH

WITCH

Torquay Museum will be transformed into a dramatic courtroom as Circle of Spears Productions bring their acclaimed historical drama WITCH to South Devon for the first time.

Based on a real Lyme Regis witch trial in 1687, the play follows accused healer Margery Scrope as she is brought before a local magistrate to defend herself against Thomas Latimer, who seeks closure following his daughter’s death.

The play, which celebrates its 3rd birthday in April, looks at social interactions, relationships and explores the dangers and realities of being a woman with secrets in a patriarchal society.

Audiences have described WITCH as compelling, immersive, thought-provoking and intense. It looks at the human story behind witchcraft accusations, so there’s no trial or torture – just people, with their motives, prejudices and biases.

After each performance the cast will discuss the play’s background and invite questions from the audience.

The show is suitable for audiences of 12 years and upwards.
