'Torquay's Other History' is a series of articles written to recognise the culture and history of our town's 'ordinary' women and men. Another suggested title was 'Beyond Agatha Christie'.

It covers a wide range of topics: Torquay's prostitutes, punk bands, pubs and poets; sexual transgressors, including Aleister Crowley and Oscar Wilde; Torquay on TV and in the movies; Riots, rebels and reformers; Folk Singers, Beatniks & Teddy Boys; Victorian Vegans and Chartist land reformers; The poor, the unemployed, the criminals, and all those that are ignored by the histories of respectable Torquay.

The philosophy is that Torquay's culture goes far beyond elite buildings and famous Edwardian gentlefolk....
