Digital Spotlight Volunteers

We are seeking 2 Digital Volunteers for Torre Abbey’s new Spotlight Project. Spotlight aims to raise awareness of Torre Abbey’s stunning collections of Fine and Applied Art, Social History and Archaeology.

Who are we looking for?
You should have a keen interest in working with websites, social networking and online marketing. You do not need to have substantial experience of website development, but you should be confident with basic social media platforms. You will have an interest in marketing and communications, and be interested in spreading the word about Torbay’s cultural heritage. For Digital Spotlight, you will be aged 17 or over to apply.

What will we expect from you?
We are looking for digital volunteers who can contribute approximately 3 hours each week to help us develop our website content, posting listings and information about our Collections, Events and Activities on Creative Torbay, Twitter, Facebook and other online platforms. We anticipate that you will continue working with us for approximately 6 months, beginning in late October 2015.

What will you get in return?
As part of Torre Abbey’s team, you will gain valuable work experience in Torbay’s premier heritage site – an Accredited museum, art gallery, historic house and English Heritage Ancient Scheduled Monument. In addition to your digital volunteering hours, you will have access to optional training opportunities across different subject areas: Digital & Communications, Museums-specific training, as well as local authority training programmes as appropriate. We value the contribution of our volunteers and seek to provide development opportunities where individuals express an interest. You will also have the opportunity to gain a V-Inspired award.

How to apply?
Send an email to Joseph Harvey, Custodian-Registrar to joseph.harvey@torbay.gov.uk with the following information:
• Write ‘Digital Spotlight Volunteers’ in the Subject line.
• Give your name, address, email address and contact telephone number.
• A brief description of your experience to date and why you are interested in becoming a Digital Volunteer.
• Information on your other current commitments, such as work or study, and what days/times you would be available to volunteer.

Application deadline for Digital Volunteers: Monday 12th October 2015 at 5pm.
We will invited shortlisted applicants to visit us at Torre Abbey in mid-October to meet the team and discuss volunteering opportunities in more detail.
