Paper: Journey Through a New Medium

Paper: Journey Through a New Medium

Saturday 15th March- Wednesday 16th April

Trestle are delighted to welcome back Caroline Lumb and Hillary Taylor to the Arts Base once again, with an exhibition that is the result of an ongoing collaboration.

Paper: Journey Through a New Medium, explores the history of paper in its initial form to the material that we see and use today, and through forms of research undertaken by the artists has culminated in a beautiful collection of framed, unframed and sculptural fabrications. The physical and emotional attachments that we have to paper and its use within society today are explored through a range of techniques.

Caroline's work involves using hand dyed papers and textiles and more so for this exhibition, pages from reclaimed books and paper ephemera. "Paper has taken me on a fabulous journey from its very first appearance, through becoming an essential building block of our world, to the almost throw-away item we take for granted today."

Hillary has taken inspiration from a number of art forms, including language and Japanese paper. "I became very involved in exploring emotions and the transient effect of paper, whether it’s the physical object, the way it's used, language or the meaning that people attach to the memory. Things that are often made to be thrown away have become my tapestry material.”

Entry is free, please check the Trestle website for opening hours with regards to School holidays.
