Mandolin Workshop (Streaming Across the Sea online festival)

Mandolin Workshop (Streaming Across the Sea online festival)

Mandolin Workshop with Mando Mike – Intermediate players and above
The workshop will be conducted online on Zoom.

In this 75-minute workshop we’ll be taking a look at different ways to accompany fiddle tunes on the mandolin. This is an often-overlooked aspect of playing mandolin as many people stick to either simple chords or the melody in jam sessions, when there is so much more we could do! From cross picking techniques to double stops, there are lots of ways to expand your options when it comes to playing chords to accompany fiddle tunes, and this workshop will hopefully show you a few different ideas you haven’t tried yet. The workshop will be suitable for anyone of an intermediate standard and above, and Tab/music will be made available where appropriate.

Mike Giverin is an exceptional mandolin player and teacher based in Cheshire, England. Mike is the mandolinist/guitarist and main songwriter for acclaimed trio Jaywalkers, who have been a popular fixture on the UK acoustic scene for well over a decade. Jaywalkers have four albums to their name and have been wowing audiences across Europe since reaching the final of the BBC Young Folk Awards back in 2009. They will also be performing in our Saturday night livestreamed concert.

This workshop is part of True North Music's Streaming Across the Sea online festival, which also includes livestreamed concerts free to access on YouTube and Facebook . With thanks for the funding support of Arts Council England. For full details visit truenorthmusic.co.uk/streaming-across-the-sea
