Streaming Across the Sea online festival, part 1

Part 1 of True North Music's online festival, Streaming Across the Sea, is coming up on Sunday 4th July, with a livestreamed concert featuring exceptional Americana, bluegrass and folk/roots artists from across the USA. To watch online, just tune in at our Facebook page or our YouTube channel (links below). We'll also have ticketed Zoom workshops in step dancing and bluegrass banjo, taught by some of the best in the business! We've been running our popular concert series for over six years now, showcasing some of the finest talent in roots music at real life concerts in Meltham, Marsden and Sheffield, and have moved online since the start of the pandemic. Please help us to keep grassroots live music going!

Here’s the confirmed performance line-up for Sunday 4th July, from 7pm UK time:

VIVIAN LEVA & RILEY CALCAGNO - a delightful blend of old time Americana, classic country and folk/roots from this talented young duo based in Oregon

Plus an in-the-round special featuring:

MELODY WALKER – powerful and soulful singer and outstanding songwriter, the charismatic frontwoman with Nashville-based Americana band Front Country
BENJAMIN HUNTER - a multi-talented fiddle player, singer and guitarist from Seattle who combines old time music, blues and bluegrass
JOE TROOP - this exceptional banjoist, fiddle player and singer from North Carolina is best known for his genre-busting work with the Grammy-nominated "Latingrass" band Che Apalache
LIV GREENE - an outstanding young singer-songwriter from Washington DC, Liv combines folk, Americana and indie pop in her evocative songs, accompanied by acoustic guitar and clawhammer banjo

We’ve also programmed ticketed Zoom workshops led by some of the best folk and bluegrass performers in the business. Tickets are out now. All workshop tickets £12 (£9 for Under 25s/ students/ unwaged).

Ottawa Valley Step Dancing with April Verch:
Acclaimed Canadian fiddler, singer and step dancer April Verch has been dancing since the age of three and fiddling since the age of six! April will teach a workshop in the Ottawa Valley step dancing style she does so well. This fun workshop will be suitable for everyone – complete beginners or experienced dancers looking to try out a new style! More details at:

Bluegrass Banjo with BB Bowness:
New Zealander BB Bowness is one of the most exciting banjo players on the contemporary scene. She co-founded acclaimed USA bluegrass band Mile Twelve and won the prestigious Steve Martin Banjo Prize in 2020. BB will lead a bluegrass banjo workshop for intermediate/advanced players. More details at:

We’re grateful for the grant support from Arts Council England, which will allow us to pay all artists a reasonable minimum amount. But we also rely on workshop tickets and supporter donations, to balance our budget and pay the artists as much as possible. This event was originally set to be our first (real-life) Yorkshire Americana & Bluegrass festival. Although ACE have kindly allowed us to postpone and then adapt the event, we still need to raise a reasonable amount ourselves to make it all work. For more info, please visit:
