Watch the Concert Videos from Fall into Autumn Virtual Festival

The Fall into Autumn Virtual Festival took place over the weekend of 24/25 October, hosted by local grassroots music promoter Maria Wallace of True North Music. There were two live streamed evening concerts with a line-up of Americana, folk/roots and bluegrass musicians performing from across the USA and UK, and you can watch the concerts again at True North Music's YouTube channel or Facebook page, or at the Creative Kirklees website.

There were entertaining performances from many artists who have played real-life concerts in Meltham or Marsden for Maria's music series over the last few years, with lots of fiddles and banjos in evidence, as well as some Cajun accordion playing and a bit of yodelling!
The weekend also included several workshops on Zoom
led by tutors based in Canada, California and Devon! These sessions - in songwriting, bluegrass guitar and percussive dance - were warmly praised by those taking part and luckily, the technology co-operated!

Maria Wallace at True North Music has hosted over 50 concerts in Yorkshire since 2015, winning Yorkshire Gig Guide’s Grassroots Award for Outstanding Promoter in 2017 and being shortlisted in 2019. A recent grant from Arts Council England’s Supporting Grassroots Live Music fund will allow True North Music to continue bringing world class live music to local music fans and beyond, in a three-part project over the next six months. The virtual festival was part 1, and two real-life performances are planned, to be filmed and live streamed at the Carlile Institute in Meltham in early 2021 (subject to strict Covid-secure protocols, and may go fully virtual depending on the pandemic).

Maria Wallace said “Thanks a million to all those who tuned in over the weekend for our virtual festival. It was a massive amount of work to organise but it was worth it to see and hear such fabulous musicians playing for us, and to connect with all our friends and audiences virtually! Everything went pretty smoothly thanks to all the preparation and testing we did, and the videos look and sound great (bearing in mind that this is a homespun production relying on the internet on both sides of the Atlantic!). Stay tuned for more virtual events and help keep grassroots music alive!"
