In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields

To mark the centenary of the end of the First World War, the de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra presents this unique and profoundly moving concert featuring music composed by Butterworth, Gurney and Vaughan Williams around the time of the Great War.

Violinist Savitri Grier returns for a performance of Vaughan Williams’ “The Lark Ascending”, and works by wartime contemporaries George Butterworth & Ivor Gurney epitomise rural life in England at the time of this “war to end all wars”. The concert ends with Vaughan Williams’ Pastoral Symphony, dramatically interpreted in live paintings by James Mayhew and interwoven with classic war poetry.
