Leonard Bernstein Centenary Concert

Leonard Bernstein Centenary Concert

Launching our new season by celebrating the centenary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth with American music.

The de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra opens the 2018-2019 season with a celebration of the centenary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth exploring three very different facets of the composer’s work – the fireworks of the Overture to Candide, the lesser known but masterful Facsimile and the thrilling and ever popular Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.

Also in this concert, the winner of The Hatfield & District Music festival 2017, clarinettist Raymond Brien, joins the orchestra for a performance of Nielsen’s Clarinet Concerto; and we contemplate “The Unanswered Question” – one of the best known works of Insurance executive as well as underrated and innovative composer, Charles Ives!

In-conversation
This year we are hosting a new event as part of the concert programme, an In-conversation with Robin Browning our conductor. These will be taking place before the October and May concerts at 6.30pm and at 2pm for the February concerts inside the theatre.
