Undercurrent Weekend

Undercurrent Weekend

Undercurrent Weekend is a three day weekend of playful installations and interactive games across Shoreham By Sea’s town centre, for inquisitive adults and mischievous children.
12-14th August
10am -4pm
Free

You can stumble across an adventure trail set by secret agents, become the captain of your own Sailaway boat, follow a flickbook across the footbridge or discover a hidden world behind the most ordinary looking door.

Artists include Coney, Subject to_change, Rachel Henson and Me and The Machine.

The Loveliness Principle
This is a hunt for something precious and remarkable. It starts with a phone call to 01273 936 588 , perhaps only a moment after you read this. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears pricked for signs of Rabbit.
*You will need to bring a mobile phone with you.

Sailaway by Subject to_change
Where have you come from and where are you going to? Pick up your Sailaway kit and build your very own paper vessel (available from 29th July -see website for details). Then join the other Sailaway captains and launch your ship on Sunday 14th Aug, 12.45pm on Coronation Green.

Flickers Under The Bridge by Rachel Henson
Starting on Shoreham footbridge this series of flick books will act as a navigation tool to guide your way as you walk. Flicking the pages animates a photo sequence of the real environment, revealing the path ahead.
*You will be asked to leave a refundable £5 deposit to take part.

The Tourist by Me and The Machine
A man is trapped within a postcard, bound to knock forevermore on the exit door of an inescapable paradise. Find the starting point between Shoreham footbridge and The Riverbank.

Finally and to add another twist to the weekend, Shoreham based artist Mel Sheppard has designed a series of bespoke badges, available to collect by taking part in each piece. The most inquisitive will be able to collect them all, you'll just have to find them first.

The weekend in August is a pilot event that is intended to develop a longer term programme within Shoreham and the surrounding areas. Undercurrent is run by producer Ruth Dudman and a team of other independent individuals working in the arts.
