Mark Green, partner of Unit Seven and Creative Director of Unit Seven said the project “Tor Bay Harbour Master Kevin Mowat asked us for some ideas on how to rejuvenate the format of the Tor Bay Harbour Guide. Our first suggestion was that we make the publication more in keeping with a magazine format with increased editorial content. By mixing a little more of the Tor Bay ‘story’ with the important safety messages, the publication broadens its appeal and therefore value as an advertising platform. As a result of the change in format, advertising space was quickly snapped up and we were able to quickly raise the income required to implement the second part of our recommendation – the development of a Tor Bay Harbour maritime mobile app. The new app will open up a wide range of new opportunities to improve the effective management of Tor Bay Harbour and make the user experience better for resident and visitor alike.”

Kevin Mowat, Executive Head of Tor Bay Harbour Authority said: “The design team have been really creative and they have successfully transformed our Harbour Guide into a new product. We now have a fresh looking publication but with all the essential information that our users will need to enjoy the use of Tor Bay, it’s coastline and the three enclosed harbours of Brixham, Torquay and Paignton. It has been a collaborative approach from the beginning and we are looking forward to the delivery of the new mobile app.”

Martin Smith, the Lead Designer of the project said: “I wanted to give the give the guide an identity of it’s own yet in-keeping with the branding of the Harbour Authority. Using a mix of articles and images from local sources as much as possible to create more of a magazine feel of layout yet still include important information. It’s been a great project to be a part of with Unit Seven.”

The Guide reveals the available facilities, local clubs and opportunities for all, the beaches and coves and useful safety advice for maritime users. It contains detailed maps of the three harbours, safety information, useful contacts and where you can enjoy the watersports the area is known for. The project will also have continuity as people will be able to enjoy all the wonderful information provided by the Maritime Guide directly from their smartphones with a free Tor Bay Maritime Guide app under development.
