Supporting Feminist Sound Collectives

This day is for anyone who is facilitating informal knowledge and skills-sharing workshops amongst girls and women*

Aimed at those with an interest in exploring strategies for supporting learning in music technology, the day includes one presentation followed by a series of workshops designed to build on attendees’ experiences, while introducing an education theory about effective ways to support collaborative learning.

Aims
- To facilitate networking amongst groups
- Sharing experience in music technology
- To create an opportunity for sharing practice around organising and feminist sound collectives
- To deliver and explore a social psychology model for facilitating informal learning and skills sharing in music technology
- To provide additional resources for further investigation

Content
- Information about Yorkshire Sound Women Network
- Networking with other facilitators across women in sound networks
- Introduction to Practice Principles for collaborative learning in music technology : a model grounded in social psychology and education research
- Practical workshop on Practice Principles for collaborative learning in music technology
- Discussion on organising: types of activities and projects; group priorities; inclusion and diversity; planning and group organisation; building relationships (partner organisations) and fundraising

Participants can claim travel expenses of up to £25 each for attending the event.

Workshop facilitator
Liz Dobson is a co-founder and director of Yorkshire Sound Women Network. She has seen YSWN grow from a grass roots organisation to a Community Interest Company and understands some of the challenges faced by this process. Liz is also a music technology lecturer (since 1998) who has worked at Leeds College of Music and the University of Huddersfield. She has delivered YSWN workshops for girls and women, managed projects delivering music technology education for girls (11+), and has her own practice in modular synthesis. Her PhD is in Education and social psychology of creativity and learning music technology. This experience and training will inform this day of skills-sharing and reflection.
