Roots to Inspire

Roots to Inspire

“Roots to Inspire” a commission of new music composition and community participation from the University of Huddersfield [supported via the Kirklees Council Leeds City Region Business Rates Pool]. Supriya Nagarajan who is a performer/composer and appears regularly on national and international stages has created a brand new piece of music titled “ The loveliness of fireflies”. The piece has been inspired by Supriya’s memories from childhood of travelling long distances by train in India and the burst of fireflies in the forested countryside at night.

Supriya has worked with an eclectic ensemble of artists who include drummer Beau Stocker, electro-acoustic sound artist Duncan Chapman, pianist James Cave, harpist Lucy Nolan, guitarist Callum Coomber and local voice artist Jess Baker. The piece will be unveiled in Dewsbury Minster on the 10th of June 2019 at 1pm. Alongside the sharing of the new music piece, Supriya has invited poets from the Yorkshire Adabee forum led by Mehjabeen Ghazal-Ansari and Madiha Ansari to participate in the event.

The event is free for the community to attend - please see link below for more details.
