Fish / Girl is an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid with the story turned inside out. A winter storm throws the depths of the oceans onto the shore, stranding a Mer Prince. A local girl, on the brink of losing her sense of self and her future, stumbles across him in the darkness of the storm and saves his life by dragging him back into the sea. She falls in love with this ambiguous creature and decides to pursue him into the unknown. But at what price?
This is a story about a small seaside town, a sudden storm and a search for home. There is a teenager on the edge of becoming a grown up, a band of taciturn Night Fishers and a Mer Prince. Fuelled by unrequited love, competitive open water swimming and a heavy dose of Glam Rock, this is a story to help you find your voice.
Fish / Girl is in development. Join us to see the workings of a show in the making. How do we make our actors swim underwater? What style of music does the sea witch sing? And does our Little Mermaid live happily ever after? Come help us answer these questions and more as we take our work in progress out on the road.
