Interpretations III: Sarah Harcus, Sam Gingell and Maggie Smith
Inspired by a sense of timelessness in the rhythms of the land and sea, Sarah Harcus shows a collection of pastel paintings exploring and celebrating the local landscape. A relatively recent convert to oil pastels, Sarah is enjoying the challenges presented by the medium, responding with strong, graphic compositions and a vibrant layering of colours.
Sam Gingell's paintings are produced in response to her personal vision of the softness of the landscape, with its rolling hills, patchwork fields and winding lanes. She has developed a distinctive style, with meditative skies in calming hues.
Maggie Smith is constantly drawn to the sea, and her large mixed media pieces are developed in response. Another source of inspiration has been her vegetable garden.
Trained in ceramics and increasingly involved in exploring the world of printmaking, Maggie presents a varied and exciting body of work.
Informal Gallery Talk with Sarah and Maggie: Saturday 21 Aug at 12 noon. Admission free.
