The Peter Randall-Page studio visit...

Very recently I was invited with a small group of creative people to meet the sculptor Peter Randall-Page at his studio in Drewsteignton. The morning comprised of visiting his beautiful farm location, then a visit to his studio area and viewing work in progress. He then eloquently described his work, and what inspires him to create his incredible sculptures produced by stone and boulders from around the world. Oh yes, his assistants Jennifer and Jane served some mighty fine coffee and biscuits.

I made contact with Peter after I had the pleasure of having one of my clay sculptures titled 'observing from within' selected for Torre Abbey's 2010 (TACO 3D) exhibition. He was one of three from the selection team. This fantastic contemporary art exhibition ran throughout this summer in association with 'TAMED' in the Abbey's Spanish Barn, with Damien Hirst and other notable artist's work on display.

Peter has created so many wonderful pieces in his long artistic career. He gained worldwide acclaim in 2007 due to his 'Seed' sculpture at a new education building for the Eden Project in Cornwall. It was a collaboration between Peter and the architect Jolyon Brewis, and from the original stage of the project it became a natural synergy of building and art.

His latest project is three new pieces for the Chelsea Flower Show next year in association with a landscape designer. Part of this project is that Peter will be carving into Icelandic boulders

Needless to say, meeting Peter was extremely enjoyable and most inspiring. It is so wonderful to see a local creative person so passionate about his art, and also making a living from it. Kudos to you Peter.
