Stitching God's Message: Sampler Design and Making

Stitched samplers are a centuries’ old tradition produced to show off the sewer’s skill, and contain Bible quotations or little homilies. They are often prized family heirlooms.

Today’s samplers can take many forms but they all have the same things in common – they are hand-made, inspirational, and intended to be seen and admired. They are fun to stitch and make wonderful gifts to mark a wedding or birth.

This five week course at St Albans Cathedral, with Embroidery Designer and Maker Jane Fookes, will teach you all you need to know to design your own unique sampler, create a pattern, choose your materials and get stitching.

Wednesdays 12.30-2.30pm, 23 September-21 October. £65 plus materials.
