Art Talk - Conversations with Detroit

Art Talk - Conversations with Detroit

This Friday Artizan Gallery will be hosting an impromptu Art Talk with photographer Emma Beckett, the artist behind the documentary exhibition Conversations with Detroit.

She describes it as the scariest and most threatening place she’s ever been and yet against this, artist Emma Beckett says she was amazed by the volume of people who extended interest and friendship through her work on the documentary exhibition “Conversations with Detroit”.

The exhibition was the culmination of an 8-month collaboration with Detroit artists, creators and innovators combined with two exploratory trips to the city and comprises 5 portrait studies, a cityscape series and a collection of found objects to create a documentary snapshot of the city. The work captures the lives of a small number of those she met, their hearts and souls thriving amongst the ruins of the city.

To close the exhibition this Friday, Emma will be leading a talk which will tell the stories of those she met and her time in Detroit. We welcome you to enjoy the exhibition this week and invite you to join us this Friday for a glass of bubbly and an evening of inspiring stories.

The talk will last around one hour and Emma will be available to answer questions following the presentation. The talk will engage heavily with the exhibition and as such this will be a standing event.
