Miriam Fraser: A Room with a Utopian View

Miriam Fraser: A Room with a Utopian View

Miriam Fraser will be inviting you to see Letchworth turned upside down.

Using camera obscura, a drawing aid used for centuries and made famous by the 17th Century Dutch Master, Miriam will invite visitors to see Letchworth 'turned on its head'.

Tucked in the eaves of a 1906 Parker and Unwin designed building, the camera obscura will be focused on the shops below as Miriam sketches out the moving images of the ever-changing Garden City, whilst being reminded of the original utopian view by a succession of projected images.

Responding to a familiar scene that has been altered, participants will be reconnected with the Garden City, enabling you to look with refreshed eyes at the town, and question whether Letchworth is still a vision of utopia.

Participants are invited to capture the fleeting moving images on paper documenting the changing urban landscape below. You can then take your captured image to the studio below and paint it, creating your very own image of utopia.

Each 15 minute interaction with Miriam will be carefully documented and recorded so that the comments of today can be added to the Garden City story.

This is a FREE but ticketed event. To book your tickets follow the website link below.
