Exhibition by Gillian Toft

The latest exhibition at Chelston Gallery features artist Gillian Toft. Gillian is a very versatile artist and enjoys expressing her creativity through a wide range of media and styles. She studied at Exeter University and has a BA hons in Italian and Fine Art. She has since worked as an Art Teacher for many years. She has exhibited in the South East and has recently relocated to Torbay. The Blue Walnut Café in Chelston held a show of her oil paintings last year.

It is human nature to explore and play and the artist has limitless scope for doing so through the creation of images. This current exhibition reflects the joy and light-hearted playfulness that comes through the variety of form and abundance of colour around us. The work reflects times when Gillian has experimented with stylized representation and the rhythm and harmony that can spring from the interactions of line and pigment. Because our observations of, and reactions to the world around us can be as varied as life itself, Gillian tends to choose the medium and style she feels best expresses whatever aspect of nature she is focusing on at the time. In this collection, some of the pictures are silk paintings and other media used vary, including ink, gouache and pencil.

Gillian’s exhibition starts at Chelston Gallery on Friday 11th September with a chance to meet her at the gallery from 6pm to 8:30pm. All are welcome. The exhibition runs till 7th October. For more information see www.chelstongallery.co.uk
