Exhibition by Ron Dodd

Exhibition by Ron Dodd

Ronald Dodd was born in 1931. He moved to Torquay with his wife and three children in 1972. He studied art at South Devon College on a part-time basis for four years. He is a member of the Torquay Guild of Artists and the Devon Art Society, the latter being one of the oldest societies in this part of the country.

Ron’s paintings are the product of memory and imagination: placing marks upon the canvas in the hope that they are pleasing to the senses and go some way to achieving that impossible goal: 'originality.' He began painting in oils in the late seventies and stayed with this medium for several years. At the same time he began to take an interest in watercolours and, latterly acrylics, which are now his preferred medium. The subject matter in Ron’s paintings often changes as he paints the picture, with new ideas and content being added along the way. In this way the intended image and what is produced do not always match, but it is this tension in the process that excites him and makes him produce more work.

Ron's work will be on show at Chelston Gallery from Friday 9th July to Wednesday 11th August.
