Arts in the Neighbourhood Awards

Just over £10,500 has been awarded to local organisations in the final round of Arts in the Neighbourhood funding in 2014-15.

The scheme, run by the Kirklees Creative Economy Team has contributed to:

•Fresh Horizons for the 2015 Deighton Carnival who are linking up with the North Huddersfield Community Arts Project for the first time
•Globe Arts Education who are running an exciting visual arts project called “My Space, My Place” aimed at young people to inspire creativity and build confidence
•Free arts and music events to be held as part of the Grand Northern Ukulele Festival
•Growing Works who will run performance arts activities for children and young people with additional needs at Cliffe House, Shepley and Northorpe Hall, Mirfield
•HD4 Youth Action Group for a course of art workshops including a woodland project for children from the Walpole estate in Crosland Moor
•The 2015 Holmfirth Film Festival
•Huddersfield Deaf Centre for the Amateur Deaf Dramatics Group to run a Deaf Filming project. Members will create a film to be shown at Deaf Fest, the UK’s leading deaf arts festival.
•A series of art, music and dance workshops being run by Huddersfield Town of Sanctuary which will bring together asylum seekers/refugees and the community and will culminate in a celebratory World Party event.

The Arts in the Neighbourhood scheme offers grants between £150 and £2,000 as a contribution to arts and cultural projects which benefit and involve Kirklees residents. The Scheme will run in 2015/16. Further details will be announced on the website in due course.
