Celebrating achievements – Salma Zaman

Celebrating achievements – Salma Zaman

It’s often hard to shout about your own achievements and praise yourself – it’s not something that sits comfortably with many people. We recently heard about the achievements of Salma Zaman from Salma’s Bollywood Academy and felt that someone needed to do a shout out about her achievements on her behalf (and with her approval!).

Salma has just represented Yorkshire as one of the finalist at the GG2 Leadership Awards in London. The award has been established as the premier award for inclusion, diversity and leadership in the UK to celebrate and recognise Britain’s most enterprising and talented black, Asian and minority ethnic high achievers.

But Salma’s achievements don’t stop there. This year she won the Yorkshire Women of Achievements in the Arts Category 2018/19 and the Best Dancing School 2018 awarded by Yorkshire and Humber Business Enterprise Awards. And somehow Salma still finds time to write children's books around disability and Indian dance/culture.

Other achievements include:
• Choreographed and appeared on BBC2 – Recipes That Made Me
• Choreographed for BBC1 – Our Dancing Town
• Ambassador for Children’s Reading Festivals – promoting more reading to children
• Judge on the National Poetry Initiative – judging the best poem, up and down the country
• UK - Ambassador for the “My Body is My Body” – Child Abuse Prevention programme - providing dance choreography to children from years 3

You can follow Salma and her work with the Bollywood Academy at her Facebook page www.facebook.com/Salmas-Bollywood-Academy-SBA-1714908202089746 or website www.salmasbollywoodacademy.com.
