Culture and Creative Industries Development Manager

With a new culture strategy, a major festival planned in 2023, a comprehensive culture service in place and thriving and diverse cultures all around the city – it is a great time to join the culture strategy team in the UK’s second largest local authority.

Leeds City Council are looking for an experienced, motivated professional with significant experience in culture and the creative industries to develop the work in this expanding area. The individual will make a strategic contribution, leading and managing the design, direction and delivery of initiatives in out-of-school creative education, skills and the creative industries; developing targeted approaches to meeting the future skills needs of this growing sector.

The role will expect the individual to work with a broad range of external organisations and disciplines – from individuals to SMEs to large scale operations e.g. Channel 4. Within the council, the individual will be working to strategic objectives across Employment and Skills, Asset Management and Regeneration and Economic Development to deliver ambitions of the Culture Strategy, Employment and Skills Plan and Inclusive Growth Strategy.

Your ability to develop and manage effective relationships with a wide body of individuals and organisations is vital; relationships that command respect, trust and confidence.

Your knowledge and skills will enhance the culture strategy team through your collaborative and inclusive leadership style. You will have the confidence and ability to work independently and as part of the team. You will be a natural networker, a problem solver with capacity for seeing the bigger picture and the determination to make it happen. You will be a strategic thinker with a track record of successful delivery. Someone who can be a confident communicator with a diverse set of stakeholders. Someone who can inspire, empower and support their colleagues.

Prior experience in the creative and cultural skills sector will be a distinct advantage. A resounding commitment to equality is an essential requirement of the role.
