Free inflatable structures workshop - artists CPD

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC) is delighted to be able to offer free artists workshops with Dutch Architect Eric and Alan Parkinson, founder of Architects of Air. Their ‘Pentalum’ structure is coming to Barnsley 21-24 September 2017, a pilot event for potential town centre installations in the future. Alongside this BMBC have received ACE Research and Development funds to include an engagement programme, and BMBC can now confirm that Architects of Air are bringing a second structure (Arborica) to act as a venue for workshops in making large inflatable structures – techniques which can be applied to a range of artistic endeavours.

Numbers are limited to 8 per session, and BMBC wish to target regional artists in order to build capacity and stimulate work of this genre. Workshops are scheduled for afternoon sessions 12.30 – 4.30pm Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September 2017. If these dates are problematic, there are also workshops on Wed/Thurs/Fri (20th, 21st, 22nd). These are currently earmarked for student groups but BMBC may be able to allow artists access to these sessions should space allow.

Interested parties should apply for a workshop space by sending their CV and paragraph or two as to how the workshop will contribute to their practice to Kevin Wallace at BMBC - see below for contact details.
