Tinsley Art Project – Public Art Commission, Sheffield

Tinsley Art Project – Public Art Commission, Sheffield

Sheffield City Council are inviting applications for a major public artwork in the Tinsley Locks / Blackburn Meadows area of Sheffield with a total fixed budget for design and realisation of £450,000.

Details of the project are below?

The project is an exciting opportunity to create a significant work that is integral to the process of change in an area that was once the heart of Sheffield’s heavy industry and is now a home for post-industrial biodiversity where otters and kingfishers can be seen. Tinsley, and this location in particular, is a meeting place of systems of road, rail and water and power and waste and is vital to the functioning of the city. It is rich with history and promise for the future.

Whilst the project is complex the brief is open and we are looking for a unique, creative and thrilling approach that is engaging and transformative.

Through the tender process we are asking artists to put forward their approach to the project, rather than a design, which will develop, in the design stage, through the selected artist’s understanding of the possibilities and realities of the area.

The application process is open to all and we are seeking applications from artists, artist teams, creative individuals and organisations. An artist will be selected to undertake the design and then, depending on the nature of the work, be closely involved in its realisation.

We are looking to have an artist appointed by March 2016 and aiming for the project to be completed by the summer of 2018.

The closing date for applications is 17.00 on 28 January 2016.

You can download the brief, which gives details of the application process at the website below.
