Sounds of Senegal with Amadou Diagne & Gris Sanderson

Sounds of Senegal with Amadou Diagne & Gris Sanderson

Sounds of Senegal with Amadou Diagne and Griselda Sanderson
Part of Adventures in Music

Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, Drake Circus
Friday 26 April, 11am to 11.45am

Please arrive by 10.45am for a prompt start

Listen to a live music performance, learn and clap basic rhythm patterns, have a go at some simple dance moves and learn some of the key words in the Wolof language of Senegal. During this session you will discover how music fits into daily life in Senegal as well as learning about different tribes and their musical styles. You can also hear the amazingly named nyckelharpa – a traditional Swedish instrument that looks a bit like a fiddle!

Amadou Diagne and Griselda Sanderson are two musicians with roots almost 3,000 miles apart. Amadou is from Senegal in West Africa and his beautiful songwriting is accompanied by bluesy guitar and violin, his playing strongly influenced by the Kora, a West African harp. Griselda’s love of West and North African music has seen her work with a number of artists. Her solo album Harpaphonics was listed in the top 10 Best World Music albums of 2009 by The Sunday Times.

This event is part of the Adventures in Music series, which is supported by PRS for Music Foundation’s New Music Plus…UK.

Tickets £4.50 per adult and £3 per child available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/213414 and venue welcome desk
