Noni Mackenzie, weaver

Noni Mackenzie, weaver

Noni Mackenzie, weaver, has moved from her old premises, which were detached from the rest of us, to her new studio near the Gallery, so I thought I’d feature her in this blog.

She trained at Camberwell Arts School, in London, and went on to run sheltered weaving workshops for people with learning disabilities at Hapstead Camphill Community and Blackerton C.A.R.E. Village here in Devon. There she helped people to produce rugs, scarves and shawls for sale. She’s also run weaving classes at Paignton Community College.

Working closely with Ben Howard, a rug weaver who trained at Coleg Elidir in Wales, she has established a Weaving Studio at Hannah’s at Seale-Hayne. Here she produces scarves, rugs, hangings, bags and blankets as well as supporting Ben and a small group of aspiring weavers of varying abilities to do the same.

Noni also runs regular introductory courses in weaving, so if you’d like more information on them please email Noni on noni-m@supanet.com.
