Island Artist

Island Artist

Emma Carter presents her second solo exhibition at Harbour House.

"I have always been enchanted by islands."

Islands have been an enduring influence in Emma's life, progressing from a childhood spent hanging out on Taggs Island in London and Burgh Island in Devon, to the Scilly Isles, then sailing in the Whitsundays, or searching for the most remote islands in the South Pacific.
Childhood excitement now passes to her own young children, conjuring up images of Enid Blyton and Arthur Ransome adventures, while Emma feels an ever deeper bond with and respect for the unpredictability of nature and the reliable pull of the tides.

Now Emma paints the vast sea and the land that borders it, often adding a handful of that same sand to her paint.

For the past fifteen years Emma has been exhibiting in London, Surrey, Devon and Cornwall, has carried out a number of public and private commissions, and has been actively involved in promoting the arts in Torbay through projects such as The Great Create at National Trust Greenway.

Emma's second solo show at Harbour House features large painted canvases, those calm, timeless seascapes that have become her trademark, alongside newer works, more colourful, abstract and conceptual. Images will also be available as limited edition reproductions.

Emma will set up her easel in the gallery and paint each day, and is happy to discuss her work at any time.
