Cautionary Tales Of Two Armchair Travellers

Cautionary Tales Of Two Armchair Travellers

As a late entry to the Devon Guild UP CLOSE exhibition, I was invited to submit an accompanying book work entitled "CAUTIONARY TALES OF TWO ARMCHAIR TRAVELLERS" This is a handprinted and embroidered fabric book of linocut prints.

Early childhood memories of the Devon coast where I grew up and other autobiographical anecdotes, including car crashes are the source of the imagery. The linocuts all show the conflicting relationship between man and nature, using the image of the car as the central theme to highlight the damage he unthinkingly inflicts upon flora and fauna, and ultimately upon him/herself. The images are, in turn, playful, violent, surreal, erotic and of course cautionary!
