Working for Rockschool as an Examiner is a privilege - I love the opportunity to meet & hear candidates in new countries, meet local people, and learn about different cultures.

I completed my Music Degree in 2002 (aged 46) as a mature student at Dartington College of Arts in West Devon (UK). This fulfilled a long held ambition and was an opportunity to go ‘back to school’ to study music. Whilst studying, I attended weekly evening classes in Samba and Ghanaian Drumming, and developed my interest in percussion from around the world.

I have a ‘Junkband’ at home in Cornwall (UK) consisting of recycled industrial containers and other ‘recycled’ instruments, which we take into schools for occasional one day workshops with students.

My main area of work since October 2005 has been as an Examiner with Rockschool Ltd – and from 2009 I began working overseas for them, and now Rockschool is my sole occupation. So far, I have visited Southern & Central India, Hong Kong, South Africa, Northern and Southern Ireland, Jersey, Cyprus, Poland, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore. In October 2012 I was the first RS Examiner to visit North Eastern India on a new tour there.

{ I spent 3 extra weeks in NE India, learning Tabla with Kailash Nishad – an Indian Tabla guru in Varanassi}.

In Feb 2016 I was one of 3 examiners to conduct the first main Exam tours in China – a new Exam territory which is now expanding very rapidly..

At the time of writing, I have completed over 14,000 individual candidate examinations

Book your place today to listen to Jerry's experiences as an examiner and get an insight into what examiners are looking for to award that elusive Distinction!
