VE Day 2020 - Artists, Singers, Dancers, Historians etc

Calling all creative types, historians, local persons and all those in-between!

2020 is the 75th Anniversary of VE Day.
A special Bank Holiday has been arranged for Friday the 8th of May, in place of the normal Early May Bank Holiday, traditionally a Monday.

We are arranging a special event on site and are looking for people to come along and take part.

Our site, located on part of the former RAF Bovingdon Site and utilizing some of the original runways used in WW2 will be decorated in period style.

We have an indoor briefing room for talks with a large TV display for presentations with laptop connectivity. We’ll have a small-elevated stage area for performers to dance, sing, talk and suchlike from. We have a large site with parking and toilet facilities.

We’ll be hosting activities and music throughout the day.

We are looking for:

Dance groups of 2 or more - Get up and strut your stuff to period music. Your choice of tune and arrangement!

Artists - Set up that easel and paint / draw / sketch and capture the spirit.
Work from a photo, set up your own gallery and sell your prints.

Singers - Belt out a tune or three on our stage from the 30s or 40s.

Historians - Give a presentation about the history of the Bovingdon Airfield Site.
Display equipment available if required.

Exhibitors - Have you got some period items you'd like to show? Photos? Books? Paintings? Bring them along and set up a table to show and tell. Sell if you'd like!

Traders – Got wartime vintage gear? Set up a stall with us. No rental cost!

Vintage Vehicle Owners – If you or someone you know has a period vehicle, military or domestic, we’d love them to bring it along! Drive up and park up on our runway track and show it off for the day.

Period Dress – Simply feel like dressing up and coming along? DO SO!
We’d love to have a period fashion parade.

ANY OTHER IDEAS! – We’re totally open to other ideas so please, get in touch!

As this day will be a free-to-attend event as part of Hertfordshire 2020 Year of Culture and local charities and organisations, with support from many of them, we would be asking people to volunteer their time.

However, if you do wish to sell anything (CDs, Videos, Art etc) you are more than welcome to do so.
If you wish to advertise yourself as attending, you are welcome to do so.
If you choose to donate a portion of your sales to Charity you are of course welcome to do so but this is not a requirement.

Look forward to hearing from you soon!

Please note : Unfortunately due to the nature of our site, we do not currently have any disabled accessible toilets permanently on site, as our facilities are overground units. However we are in the process of upgrading our facilities so hope to have some on site very soon.
