Lorraine Benton

Lorraine Benton Sculpture-Paintings-Photographs

I discovered my interest in art as a mother of 2 toddlers. As the children began to grow and I gained more free time, my passion for this new hobby also began to flourish. I studied sculpture for several years followed by a Fine Art degree, before turning my attentions to painting, with which I could experiment and express in paint various aspects of my life. I sought to combine the rigid, inflexible rules of science and mathematics from my training as a pharmacist, with the lyrical flow of rhythm and interval spacing in music.

Landscape and nature inspire me, and I am fascinated by visual riddles. My work has become increasingly abstract in an attempt to find a new visual language that offers the viewer an experience that is open to individual interpretation. I often include elements of perspective and illusory three-dimensional aspects to explore the physical and psychological space beyond the surface of the canvas.
