Locally created spoken word show shortlisted for Saboteur Award

‘How To Starve An Artist,’ created by multi-slam winning poet Rose Condo, has been shortlisted for Best Spoken Word Show for the annual Saboteur Awards in London.

Originally from Canada and currently based in Huddersfield, Rose Condo developed the show in early 2016 and premiered it at last summer’s PBH Free Fringe in Edinburgh. She has since gone on to tour the show around the UK, including two sold-out performances at Huddersfield’s Lawrence Batley Theatre last October.

‘How To Starve An Artist’ features a series of poems and stories written and performed by Rose, exploring ideas around creative nourishment. Whilst performing, Rose simultaneously prepares and serves food to the audience, inviting them to reflect on feeding their own inner artists.

The Saboteur Awards have been running since 2011 by Sabotage Reviews, an organisation dedicated to providing dynamic commentary and reviews on independent literature, poetry, short stories and live performance (particularly open mic events and spoken word shows).

Nearly 2,200 people nominated across 12 categories, and shortlists were announced at the beginning of April. The four most nominated works in each category have made it into the shortlist, as well as a work selected by one of the Sabotage Reviews editors.

Rose Condo’s ‘How To Starve An Artist’ is one of five shows shortlisted for Best Spoken Word Show.

Also from Huddersfield, poet and performer Lisa Luxx has been shortlisted for Best Spoken Word Performer.

The awards are voted for by the public and the results will be announced on 13th May at a special evening event at Vout-O-Reenees in London. Voting is open until 30th April to determine the winners: www.saboteurawards.org/
