Visual Artists/Workshop Leaders for Big Draw
St Albans Arts, Sport & Health team seeks expressions of interest from artists who would be interested in carrying out workshops for the general public during October as part of the national Big Draw programme.
This year's theme is Draw Tomorrow and could be interpreted in many ways:
• What does the future look like?
• Where will you be and what will you do?
• What can we do to make the world a happier place?
• Draw the things which you would most like to improve – anything from clothes to buildings, food to transport, museums to playgrounds.
• Create future organisms… can we learn from sea creatures that see in the dark? Can future flowers help protect bees?
We are asking artists to write proposals in line with the above theme for delivering workshops encouraging community learning and participation to people of all ages. We are looking for several artists – one of whom will have experience in creating ‘public art’ to deliver a series of sessions feeding in to a final piece on our ‘Big Draw Day’ on 26 October.
A couple of the sessions will be more specific or may be tailored to the venue, which are the following:
• Targeted session(s) at a youth club which might lead to a street art style mural on the side of a building
• Pre-school and infant aged session in partnership with the libraries
• Sessions at the Museum of St Albans & Verulamium Museum which might link into the museum collection – could be concerned with creating a museum artefact for the future
To be considered please send a CV and no more than one page of A4 (200 words), telling us about you, your work, your practice and a brief proposal of ideas you may have for one of these workshops and materials required. We plan to run some of the sessions as drop-in and some as longer bookable activities. The fee for workshop leaders is £30 per hour.
Send your applications to Melissa.caneppele@leisureconnection.co.uk by 5 pm Wednesday 24 July 2013. Positions suitable for artists located in or near St Albans. Artists must have full enhanced CRB disclosure.
