Open Data Cities

3pm, free, booking essential

Julian Tait of FutureEverything discusses the creative and social impact of making national and publicly owned datasets open, with reference to Manchester as Britain’s first Open Data City.

The cities in which we exist are vast repositories of information, endlessly collecting and archiving data. Following the example set by cities such as San Francisco, Vancouver and Edmonton, FutureEverything are championing a global movement calling for the opening up of publicly held datasets. Open data and transparency is being firmly promoted by artists, activists, developers and government alike. Can freely available data enable social change around transparent governance and so help to reconnect people to the democratic process?

FutureEverything creates year round Digital Innovation projects that combine creativity, participation and new technologies to deliver elegant business and research solutions. For further information see: http://futureeverything.org/
