Artist’s Statement

I am a local artist specialising in printmaking.

I make work from my own experience mainly. The landscapes where I live, go on holiday, work and spend time with my family and friends are really important to me. I like to make work about joy. I love the surprises and unpredictable nature of printmaking-it’s impossible to completely control the outcome which means that each time I lift the paper off the plate I am excited because I don’t know how it’s going to look exactly.I learn more with each new work I make.

I mostly make small editions. This is mainly because I like to keep the work fresh. I hand ink each plate myself so each one will come out slightly different. If someone buys my work and they see it somewhere else they know that theirs is unique even if it is from the same edition. I try to use safe techniques for my work-washable nontoxic inks for example that can be cleaned with washing up liquid rather than white spirit
