From Brixham To Africa – In One Stop

The Gallery, Torbay Hospital, January 16 to February 27

The first of the series of exhibitions planned for the New Year at The Gallery, Torbay Hospital, will see Brixham artist Lynne Peets taking viewers through a journey, from Brixham to Africa.

Her colourful watercolours will bring welcome warmth and sunshine to The Gallery to take away the winter chill of January and February.

“From my view…Brixham to Africa”, which opens on the evening of Friday January 16, will transport Lynne’s audience from local harbour scenes and characters, through the Devon countryside, and to Jersey, France and onto Africa, seeing the changing colours along the way.

Lynne’s exhibition will not only be enjoyed by hospital patients, staff and visitors but will also be open daily to the public. Admission is free and all the works on show will be available to purchase.

This is Lynne’s first solo show at the hospital’s gallery, but some of her work of a few years ago has been exhibited there in a successful joint exhibition in December 2006 with another local artist, Jenny Brown, and as part of the Brixham Shoal of Artists’ in November the previous year, 2005.

Gallery co-ordinator Caroline Hill said: “This exhibition will be an ideal blend of the local scenes that people love to see and recognise, and the enticement of travel and holidays in the sun and a taste of other cultures. Lynne’s cheerful character pours out into her paintings, which are always uplifting – just what the doctor ordered to fend off the winter blues and help us all feel a little better.

”We are expecting that her picture “Brixham Beaudies” – especially paired with “Not just a Pretty Face” - will make a lot of people smile and even chuckle.”

The exhibition will run until February 27.
