This programme of Romantic English music of the early 20th century features the choral cantata A Cotswold Romance, adapted by Maurice Jacobson from the opera Hugh the Drover by Vaughan Williams. It follows the story of Hugh from love to prize fighting, to the stocks, to freedom, and back to love, with Vaughan Williams’ unmistakeable music based on English folk songs.

The programme will also include five unaccompanied songs by Edward Elgar and other Romantic English music of the period.
