DISS 2015 - The Silent Pianist Speaks

Neil Brand: illustrated lecture

5.15pm Barn
£8 / Under 16s £5

Neil Brand, the celebrated pianist, composer and scintillating presenter (BBC’s Sound of Cinema and Sound of Song) uses clips from some of the greatest moments in silent cinema – from the earliest comedies and thrillers to cine-verité classics – to illustrate the power of live music in film.

Having trained originally as an actor, Neil has been accompanying silent films for over 25 years, performing regularly at the National Film Theatre on London's Southbank, film festivals and special events throughout the world. He is considered one of the finest exponents of improvised silent film accompaniment in the world. He is also a fine composer, with an enormous range of orchestral film scores, TV and theatre work. Neil is also strikingly funny, entertaining and knowledgeable – prepare to enter film buff’s heaven!

Part of the Dartington International Summer School 2015 concert and events programme.
