One of the country’s leading classical pianists will perform master works by Frederic Chopin at a concert in Rickmansworth on Monday, December 4.

Tim Horton, who has played at the Wigmore Hall and the Royal Festival Hall and performed with major UK orchestras, will also introduce his audience to compositions by Chopin’s fellow Pole, Karol Szymanowski.

Though less well known than Chopin, Szymanowski is highly regarded by many musicians. The conductor Sir Simon Rattle has described him as “one of the greatest composers of the 20th century”.

The evening’s programme will include two nocturnes and four scherzos by Chopin and three pieces by Szymanowski that were inspired by legendary figures: Scheherazade, the Arabian Nights storyteller; Tristan, the doomed lover of Isolde; and Don Juan, the legendary Spanish womanizer.

Tim Horton is a founder member of the internationally acclaimed Leonore Piano Trio and has been a regular guest pianist with the Nash Ensemble. This will be his second performance for Three Rivers Music Society.

The concert will be held at the Baptist Church in High Street, Rickmansworth WD3 1EH. 7.30pm start. Tickets at the door: £16 (including programme and refreshments). Reduced price for music society members. Free entry for under 25s.
